After spending a lot of time in Palisade and trying plenty of wines, I’ve crafted the perfect one-day itinerary to see Palisade on two wheels. This itinerary will introduce you to Palisade through some of its best wineries, all while taking in the scenic high desert landscapes by bike.

If you don’t have your own bikes, start the day by picking up rentals. While there are a couple options in the area, I recommend Palisade Cycle. It’s located right on Palisade’s Main Street and the bikes are conveniently equipped with baskets to carry any wine purchases.
Varaison Vineyards

Highlight: Educational wine tasting experience
The wine tour begins with a short ride to Varaison Vineyards, housed in a charming old Victorian home. This understated winery serves as the ideal starting point for your wine-tasting journey. Here, you’ll learn the art of wine tasting through sampling Varaison’s diverse wine selections. From understanding the differences in how to taste red versus white wine, or finally learning the point of swirling your glass, you’ll be a pro at tasting wine by the end of the experience.
Carboy Winery

Biking distance: 2.3 miles
Highlight: Panoramic views on the rooftop patio
After Varaison, hop back on your bike for the longest stretch of biking. The picturesque countryside makes the journey fly by, and you’ll arrive at Carboy Winery before you know it. Carboy’s Palisade location boasts a spacious rooftop patio with breathtaking views of Mt. Garfield and the Book Cliffs. Don’t miss sampling one of Carboy’s many sparkling rosés!
Maison La Belle Vie

Biking distance: less than 0.1 mile
Highlight: Abundant dining options and wine slushies
Just across the street is Maison La Belle Vie. Maison is the best winery in Palisade for food, making it the perfect place to grab lunch. Here you’ll find sharables like their generous charcuterie board or baked brie, as well as sandwiches and salads. While their wine menu is extensive, the reds in particular really shine. Don’t forget to try their refreshing wine slushies!
Colorado Vintners Collective

Highlight: Tasting flight showcasing wines from across Colorado
As you near the end of your wine-tasting day, head to Colorado Vintners Collective. The wine tasting flight here is a must! You’ll be guided through four different wines, including the winery’s own and others from across the state. The experience is intentionally slow and offers insights into the wines, their origins, and even the stories behind the labels.
Return To Downtown Palisade

Highlight: Diverse options for dining and drinking to wrap up the day
Enjoy the leisurely ride back to Palisade Cycle to end the day. After returning your bikes, you’ll be perfectly located to enjoy the rest of your evening in Palisade. Grab a cocktail crafted from locally made spirits at Peach Street Distillery, cool off with a refreshing beer at Palisade Brewing Company, or sit down for dinner at Fidel’s Cocina & Bar or Pêche.
