Staying At The Hilton Los Cabos: A Complete Review

The Hilton Los Cabos Beach & Golf Resort is an inviting getaway tucked along the Sea of Cortez on one of Los Cabos’ only swimmable beaches. After spending nearly a week at the resort, here are my thoughts and a complete review of the Hilton Los Cabos.

Location

The resort itself is located between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, making it an ideal spot if you’re looking to spend time in both cities. The downside is that there isn’t much else nearby, so you’ll have to take a taxi or Uber to go anywhere outside the resort.

Overall, I loved the location! When I’m visiting Los Cabos, I usually like to go to both Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, so it was nice being perfectly situated in the middle. The Hilton Los Cabos also felt so secluded and relaxing since it was away from the craziness of the cities – exactly what I’m looking for on a beach vacay.

Facilities

Resort

The Hilton Los Cabos completed a full renovation not long before our stay, so everything was pristine. The entire resort felt light and airy, with multiple courtyards and hallways that opened directly to the outside. We immediately felt relaxed as we approached the open-air check in desk and were escorted to our room, sipping on complementary margaritas.

Every corner of the resort is an Instagram-lover’s dream. From intricately painted walls, to hidden rocky courtyards, the photo options are endless. It’s clear that the resort’s renovation was completed with aesthetics in mind.

There were a few bumps during our trip, but nothing major. For example, we had reserved and paid for a tequila tasting several weeks before, but the reservation somehow disappeared. We were still able to do the tasting, but it was frustrating trying to get things resolved. The two ATMs were also not working at all during our stay, which was a challenge as there was nowhere nearby to get cash. Based on the rest of our experience, I’m confident that these frustrations were one-off issues and that similar problems are unlikely in the future.

Room

As we stepped into our suite, I immediately knew I was in for a good week. The entire space had been decorated for Andrew’s birthday and we had complementary tequila waiting. As soon as the door closed behind us, we put on the fluffy, white robes and sat on the balcony finishing off our margaritas and breaking into the tequila. Each morning, we woke up to hot coffee and tea, which we enjoyed while soaking up the views and lounging on the balcony in our robes. When returning to the room in the evenings, our bed was turned down and scented with our choice of aromatherapy.

We stayed in an AltaMar Junior Suite. This room was complete with a king-sized bed, seating area, a large bathroom with oversized jacuzzi bathtub, and private balcony with lounge chairs. It was welcoming and comfortable, just like the rest of the resort.

The AltaMar experience includes premium rooms on the highest floors, airport transportation, discounts, cocktail hours, and breakfast, among other amenities. I absolutely recommend spending a little more on an AltaMar room – it more than pays for itself and makes the stay feel even more luxurious.

Entertainment and Relaxation

Agave Spirits Tasting

I love tequila, but my knowledge on it is definitely lacking. We did the agave tasting and I had so much fun learning about different types of agave spirits, how to drink them, and what to pair with each. This tasting included tequila, mezcal, sotol, and raicilla. We were also given a bonus tasting of sotol made with rattlesnake venom!

Such a great experience! I came away from the tasting with new knowledge, a good buzz, and an interesting story (I mean, how many people have tried rattlesnake venom?).

Beaches and Pools

Many travelers don’t realize that the majority of beaches in Los Cabos are not swimmable. A major draw of the Hilton Los Cabos is the fact that it has private access to one of the only swimmable beaches in the area. As someone who is more of an ocean than a pool lover, access to this beach is one of the main reasons we chose to stay here. During our beach days, we reserved a beach cabana, which was perfect for getting a break from the intense sun and refueling on margaritas.

Beyond the warm, swimmable surf, the pool areas at the Hilton Los Cabos are equally picturesque. There are four pools in total, each with their own appeal. I personally stuck to the Serenity Pool and Jewel Pool, but there is also the Dolphin Pool, targeted toward families, and the Sunrise Pool. We rented cabanas alongside the Serenity Pool a couple of days – I loved having a space that was specifically reserved for us, as well as a front row view of the infinity pool and sea.

Even without having specifically reserved seats by the pool and beach, there were plenty of chairs and it was never a challenge to find a place to sit. The entire pool and beach area is definitely one of the highlights of the resort!

Restaurants

Los Cabos are home to some incredible restaurants, so I typically try and get away from my resort for meals. However, the Hilton Los Cabos’ restaurants definitely hold their own in the area’s competitive dining scene.

Our AltaMar room came with a complimentary buffet-style breakfast. There were tons of options to fit all tastes and diets. I particularly loved the abundance of fresh fruit, smoothies, and juices. There’s no better way to start a vacation day than with a laid back breakfast, complete with fresh green juice and chilaquiles.

At many resorts, the poolside cuisine leaves something to be desired. This was definitely not the case at the Hilton Los Cabos! We snacked on ceviche, guacamole, chicken quesadillas, and beyond, all while sipping on spicy margaritas and pina coladas. Every couple hours someone came around with frozen grapes, ice pops, and other treats to cool off from the hot sun.

As far as dinner, Talavera was our favorite option at the resort. We enjoyed the lively atmosphere with a view of the sea, as well as the fresh Mexican cuisine. Our cocktails were strong and tasty and I loved all the local Mexican wine that was on the menu.

Would I go out of my way to eat at any of the Hilton Los Cabos’ restaurants? Probably not, given the abundance of amazing restaurants only a short drive away. But if you’re staying at the resort, you definitely can’t go wrong with any of the dining options.

Overall Review of the Hilton Los Cabos

We had a wonderful time staying at the Hilton Los Cabos! I loved the resort’s location between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, as well as the fact that it has a private swimmable beach. Another huge positive was the AltaMar experience – waking up to coffee and tea at our door and falling asleep with aromatherapy made the whole stay feel so luxe.

There were a couple hiccups, but nothing that majorly impacted our experience. Overall, I would highly recommend the Hilton Los Cabos for a Mexico vacation and hope to be back soon!
